down within the deepest caverns, these insects harvest a special nectar from the fields of fungal flora that populate their damp floors. they lack stingers and the harvested nectar produces a pale yellow glow from their abdomens, similar to fireflies. this is then transferred to the paper nests, and the compounds act as an anti-molding material.
